9:00am-11:00am

Florence Darlington Stormwater Consortium, a cooperative effort between local educational organizations and municipalities, is committed to protecting our waterways through environmental education and public involvement. Their work focuses on addressing pollutants of concern in the watersheds of the Florence/Darlington region by targeting specific behaviors and audiences to promote positive change.
To be effective, these strategies must go beyond facts and figures—real change happens when people feel a sense of pride in their community and a desire to protect our natural resources. Research shows that emotional engagement often has a greater influence on public perception than data alone.
That’s where Keep Florence Beautiful (KFB) plays an important role. As a longstanding advocate for community beautification and environmental stewardship, KFB brings a strong network of volunteers and community stakeholders to the table. Their mission to inspire pride and action through beautification aligns perfectly with the Consortium’s goals. Together, this collaboration enhances efforts to shift mindsets through creative, place-based projects that resonate on a deeper level.
In this session, participants will explore the power of art in environmental education, learn about local environmental art projects, and take part in the installation of a storm drain mural at Timrod Park—a project made possible through the joint efforts of the Florence Darlington Stormwater Consortium and Keep Florence Beautiful.
